Police Hold Man Preparing Attacks |
The police have arrested a 26-year-old Pakistani man suspected of belonging to a global jihadist network which is preparing attacks in Western Europe, including Britain, France, Germany, Portugal and Spain, the public prosecutors office said in a statement. Prosecutors said he had ties to a cell of Islamists that was largely dismantled after raids in Barcelona in January. Spains interior minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, said the cell had been on the verge of violent action. The Dutch police had been investigating the suspect, who was not identified, since late January.
He was under 24-hour observation and was finally arrested in Breda, to
prevent terrorist activities, the prosecutors office said. The
authorities said there was no information he was planning an attack in
the Netherlands.
